General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)

This is a three and half year course in nursing. After passing out a student is eligible to work as a Staff Nurse in any health unit. All aspects of nursing are taught to the students through class room teaching in the School and practical training in the Hospital, which is for three years. This course is followed by 6 months' internship; during which time, they are made to learn manage the patients independently as a nurse.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years.
  • Minimum education:
    • 10+2 class passed preferably Science (PCB) & English with aggregate of 40% marks.
    • 10+2 in Arts (Mathematics, Biotechnology, Economics, Political Science, History, Geography, Business Studies, Accountancy, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy) and English Core/English Elective or Health care Science - Vocational stream ONLY, passing out from recognized Board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board with 40% marks.
    • 10+2 vocational ANM under CBSE Board or other equivalent board from the school and recognized by Indian Nursing Council with 40% marks.
  • Student shall be medically fit.
  • Students qualified in 10+2 Arts or Science examination or Health care Science - Vocational stream ONLY conducted by National Institute of Open School with 40% marks.
  • Student shall be admitted once in a year.

Number of seats available:

30 students are admitted each year.

Admission:

The session usually starts in October every year. Students need to appear for a Pre Nursing Test, usually held in July each year. All qualified students are called for interview, and once selected; they are admitted for the training. The dates shall be mentioned in the prospectus.

Examinations:

Annual Board examinations are held in each year.

Certificate:

After passing out the 3rd year Board examination and successful completion of the Internship thereafter, a student shall be eligible to receive the certificate of GNM. This certificate is registrable in any State Nursing Council of India.
